Crowdsourcing Website Redesign on

The team at TAXIBOX, an Aussie mobile self-storage business offering their services in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane were looking into re-developing their online quoting system, and they turned to Contests for a solution.

We caught up with Ben Cohn, one of the co-founders at TAXIBOX, whose role is to drive growth and marketing/branding of the business, to chat about their experience with and their Contest on the platform.

FL – Could you tell us more about TAXIBOX, how it all started, where the idea came from, and how big your team is now?

BC – TAXIBOX is Australia’s leading mobile self-storage provider. Our point of difference is that we deliver a TAXIBOX (the storage unit) directly to the customer’s door for loading rather than having to drive out to the storage unit. Once loaded, we collect and store the TAXIBOX. We also offer interstate moving services as well as having the option for the storage unit to remain on-site at the customer’s location. The concept of mobile storage started in the United States in the late 90s, but I’m proud to say that we’ve evolved the model into bigger and better things. We’ve created a fantastic brand and we’re looking forward to future growth. We currently operate in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and we employ approximately 30 full-time team members.

FL – Could you please tell us more about the project you posted on What were you looking for in the design?

BC – The team here at TAXIBOX was looking into re-developing our online quoting system and we wanted to split test a new version vs. our existing version. We were looking to design a 3-step basic instant quote system that provided customers with transparent pricing coupled with an easy ‘book now’ option.

FL – What do you think of your Contest on Freelancer, and the quality of submissions you got through?

BC – We have already run several contests on the platform and the quality on is usually great. The end result also depends on how much you are willing to spend and the quality of your brief and engagement throughout the contest. The nice, clean layout of Contest platform makes the overall process easy. It’s all pretty straightforward.

FL – How was the new design received by your clients? How did the change help to improve your business?

BC – Our old quoting system was converting approximately 3% of the visits to the site, whereas the new design gets nearly double of that. With hundreds of requests daily, this difference translates into many more quotes. It had a huge impact on our overall sales.

FL – How did you learn about and what made you choose our services?

BC – Freelancer is an Australian company and I have been following the growth of the company since its inception. We use as it offers a better value for money over similar marketplaces, or doing things locally.

FL – What was it like working with your freelancer? Were all expectations met?

BC – When it comes to designer freelancers, they are normally very easy to work with. The designer we worked with was capable and willing to implement our ideas as we wanted.

FL – How much do you think the work would have cost locally?

BC – According to our estimations doing the design locally would have cost at least double so we’re happy we found this solution.
