Anime Cutscene for Game - 24/07/2025 00:00 EDT

Contest Brief

I'm looking for a talented animator to create a 2D anime style cutscene for my game. The cutscene will be 1-3 minutes long. I already have an Idea prepared, but I need an animator who can bring it to life.

Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Proficiency in 2D anime style animation
- Experience in creating game cutscenes
- Attention to detail and strong artistic skills
- Animation software expertise (e.g., Toon Boom, Adobe Animate)

Context:
My name is Clay, and I'm the creator of an upcoming video game.

Our team is currently looking to create an animated cutscene-style intro video to play at the beginning of the game. The vision for this sequence is a stylized, cartoon-inspired cinematic (think Sly Cooper cutscenes) that helps set the tone for the story. (I have included some Game Art to give a vibe of what we are creating)

Cutscene Concept Overview:
The video would follow our main character through a looped day/night routine—waking up, heading to the computer, and going to sleep—highlighting the mundane. One day, however, the loop is broken by the sound of a doorbell.

At the door is a mysterious package, inside of which is a “Dream Journal” with a cryptic message. Later that night, as the character inspects the journal before falling asleep. Once the Character falls asleep it begins to glow. The scene then transitions into a surreal moment where our protagonist is shown standing above the Dream Realm, now fully geared up in their Dream Slayers armor (reference image attached).

*This is a rough Idea that could be expanded on.

Additional Context:
This scene revolves around two distinct character states—though you’re welcome to include one of our enemies listed below if it enhances the moment. The first is the "Awake State," represented by a regular teenage boy. While we don’t have a specific reference for his look, feel free to get creative—just ensure it aligns with the overall tone and theme of Dream Slayers. As the transition unfolds, the boy transforms into a fully equipped Slayer, donning proper gear and embodying the power and presence of a Dream Realm warrior.

    I’ve carefully reviewed your contest and the sample videos you provided. I drew a lot of inspiration from them and also collaborated with some friends to create a series of cutscenes and demo videos with matching music and effects.

      Hi Great Questions, Yes the animation part is what we are looking for so the whole cutscene. I have loads of references as far as pictures we are using for the game and even gameplay footage if that helps.

    This would be fun to work on but I need to know few things the main character do you have a Design for it or we are free to create our own? And what should be that cryptic message? And when he glow after sleep should I just make a transation to him in slayer suit opening his eyes standing infront of the portal as per refrence?

      Great Question, The character in the "normal world" can be totally up to you. Our Vision was him just being a normal teenage boy. Obviously still fitting our stylized theme, you could even go a route where you don't necessarily show his face. However up to you! The Cryptic Message we wanted it to say "Dream While Your Wide Awake". When the transition happens we want him standing over the dream realm (ex. Picture attached with Tree) Hope this helps!

      I think I setup the contest to run for 2 weeks? I don't think I can award the winner for just a character sheet design. We have an artist on staff that if needed we can get one from her. I figured based on material we provided someone can get creative with it. If the demand is there for the character I can have one made.
