NASA Challenge: Develop 3D Models for Robonaut Simulation-Manila Envelope
- Stare: Closed
- Premiu: $50
- Intrări primite: 56
- Câștigător: Zakken
Sumarul concursului
We (NASA) need to develop a number of high resolution 3D models to be used for Robonaut simulations. These 3D models are to be developed based on photographs of real items (see attached files). These simulated objects would be used for various grasp and manipulator testing.
This particular challenge is to build a 3D model of a manila envelope (that's right.... a manila envelope). This item will be used by the Robonaut team to develop vision and grasping controls to increase R2's ability to interact with non-rigid, compliant objects in its workspace.
There is a scale in the attached imagery is in inches. All final model submissions must be delivered in on of the following formats: .prt (Solidworks, ProE); .step or .stp; .iges; .stl; .dae. NOTE: Freelancer submissions will need to be image file views of your model. If you win the contest, you will then send/transfer the model files to NASA via email, dropbox, etc.
All entries will be judged on the accuracy, quality, and fidelity (detail) of the model produced. Note that where highly similar top submissions are produced, the submission entered first will win.

Feedback de la Angajator
“Zakken did an outstanding job of creating a very detailed 3D model of an object for use in our NASA robonaut simulation. This was a contest and Zakken\'s design was selected from 66 entries.”

Thank you to all of the Freelancers who participated in this challenge. You all demonstrated some amazing work. In the judging, we had to go with our original criteria in the brief ("where highly similar top submissions are produced, the submission entered first will win.") Great job Zakken! Congratulations!

Hi NASA,
The benefit of crowd-based challenges is a product of contributory data being open-source.
“By definition, crowdsourcing combines the efforts of numerous self-identified volunteers or part-time workers, where each contributor, acting on their own initiative, adds a small contribution that combines with those of others to achieve a greater result;”
When participants can build upon existing, shared ideas and freely add to them, the rate of convergence to functionality over time increases.
Closed contests can’t achieve this collaborative benefit. That’s not crowdsourcing. That’s taking random, blind samples from a population to see which sample most fits a desired effect.

Note that I think based on your post that I'll make one of these open to see how that goes. It will probably be the last one. Thanks for getting me to think more about this.

We will have 14 contests in total. About 1/2 will be guaranteed. Note that this pilot project is working to study crowd-based challenges so we are looking at these as variables in the study.

Alright, nice I've seen the NTL post on the NASA website http://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-tournament-labs-ntl-micro-task-challenges-pilot-project . So far I've done 3 out of 5 of the challenges and now I'm curious about how these challenges will promote Space Exploration ?

Great question. These particular challenges are helping us with some work that we needed to support our Robonaut simulation. The progress we make with Robonaut directly supports our ability to explore space. Additionally, these initial challenges are helping us understand how the crowd can help us with various types of tasks. Admittedly, we are starting off fairly simple, but the hope is that we can use the crowd to help us on more complex projects too.

I assume that this automated email from Freelancer. If you can't find the feedback, you might contact Freelancer help. That said, I may have just added a rating or like last night. However I went through and added comments to all today. Hopefully you can see. Thanks.

Hi! I would like to participate in the competition but I have a doubt, do not understand what the requirement, is to do about caracaterísticas? it does not float in space ?, the closure is easy? Could you explain me a little better, Greetings

Titularul concursului - acum 8 ani
We are wanting a 3D model of the manila envelope shown in the photographs. The model should be as similar to the actual photograph as possible. You should not have to worry about floating in space (zero gravity) or different closure positions. Hope this helps.

No, however since this will be used in a simulation model, computational efficiency will be important... so balancing detail with efficiency is your best bet.
