Alongside deep technical experience, I have worked in CTO and technology leadership roles, taking responsibility for technology strategy, architecture, engineering direction and delivery. I’m comfortable working with founders, executives, product teams and engineers to turn business objectives into practical technical plans, identify risks early, establish effective development processes, and make the architectural decisions that allow products and teams to scale. My approach is engineering and architecture first. Rather than starting with a preferred language, framework or fashionable technology, I begin with the problem: the business requirements, constraints, risks and expected lifetime of the product. From there I design the appropriate architecture and technology strategy, selecting tools based on their suitability rather than personal preference. This technology-agnostic approach also allows me to work effectively across a wide range of stacks and to become productive quickly with unfamiliar technologies. My background gives me enough hands-on engineering depth to evaluate technical decisions critically, work directly with development teams, review architectures and code, prototype solutions where necessary, and distinguish genuine engineering constraints from unnecessary complexity. As a fractional CTO or technology advisor, I can help with areas including technology strategy, software architecture, technical due diligence, product and engineering roadmaps, team structure and recruitment, development processes, legacy-system modernisation, scalability and reliability, vendor or technology selection, and resolving difficult technical projects that have lost direction. My focus is always on building technology that serves the business: pragmatic where it needs to be, well engineered where it matters, and designed to remain maintainable, adaptable and reliable over the long term. less -
