I've handled multiple 2D explainer tutorials built around science and curiosity topics, and the part I enjoy most is taking an idea that's hard to picture and finding the visual that finally makes it click. One recent piece walked through how deep-sea creatures survive crushing pressure. The tricky bit was showing scale without losing the viewer, so I built a side-by-side depth gauge in After Effects and animated a simple submersible sinking past each layer as the narration moved. Rigging the creature movement in Toon Boom saved a lot of redraw time too. For your series I'd usually start with a short beat sheet per topic, sketch the key visual metaphor, then animate in Toon Boom and finish compositing in After Effects.
