Simulating Solar Cells using TCAD tools

The project is about designing The solar tandem cell using TCAD software. The project will involve producing different designs of solar cells along with carrying out simulations and calculations in order to produce a more reliable design with a better output energy.

The aim of the project would be:

1) improve the efficiency of solar cells

2) optimizing for design performance and target reliability

3) reduce the effects of variations on system performance

4) lowering production cost

The purpose of the project is to:

1) improve the efficiency of solar cells

3) minimize interconnect losses

4) evaluating and minimizing effects of environmental variations

a) light intensity and incident angle

b) temperature variation

c) electrical environment

5) optimizing power conversion

The desired outcome is:

1) optimizing for design performance and target reliability

3) reduce the variations on system performance

incoming optical power into electrical power with maximum efficiency

3. TCAD refers to Technology Computer-Aided Design. This means that computer simulations are used to

develop and optimize semiconductor processing technologies and devices.

TCAD software will be primarily used to carry out various tasks of the project. Typical characteristics of TCAD tools include collection efficiency, spectral response, open circuit voltage, VOC and short Circuit current ISC.
