Module Assignment Acting as advisor to a potential investor You are required to research, analyse and critically comment on the financial reports of a company quoted on the London Stock Exchange. You must use the most recently published full year accounts. Choose your company from the list of the top two hundred and fifty companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. No two students may work on the same company’s report. Your choice of company must be approved by your tutor before you start work on it. Consider and write a report to a potential investor who wants to invest in the ordinary shares of your chosen company. Include in your report commentary upon: 1. Profits, earnings and dividends 2. Financial stability and liquidity 3. The information disclosed to assist stakeholders’ understanding 4. The companies attitudes to Ethical, Social and Environmental issues ASSESSMENT CRITERIA The assessment will seek to assess: • knowledge and understanding of key areas of relevant academic theory within the module • the student's ability to evaluate, question and reflect on the study material in a manner which recognises the interdisciplinary nature of the topic • the ability to apply new knowledge to analyse, interpret and communicate financial information to non experts. • the student's ability to communicate using IT as appropriate • Please use small tables and graphs in the text where data is discussed. Please do not include any large tables or complete financial reports in the text or appendices. Avoid descriptive writing, for instance merely repeating figures in the paragraphs. • Include at least five years’ figures and compare with one or more comparable companies. • You should read extensively on your company. Make sure that you can show your understanding of how the figures are affected by strategic and operational matters and vice versa. Word Count The work should not exceed 2,500 words, nor be less than 2,200 words. The word count excludes tables, figures, references and appendices.
