In my experience, when dialogues sounds like a conversation you’d hear in the real world, you’ve gone horribly wrong somewhere. Generally speaking, my clients like their dialogues to have purpose and be in conflict. Of course, the storyline and the narrative plays an important role but...I believe that dialogues have to power to transcend the narrative arc and be something independent - ash vs evil is a good example of this. Hi! The synopsis seems intriguing--I'd definitely like to take a look at the screen play to see how it is fleshed out. The key to a successful script is character, and character is a function of dialogue. You have to have compelling dialogue or it'll fall flat. My approach to writing is based upon taking chances as far as being ultra creative and ultimately making a significant impact on that reading moment in a person's life! After reading your synopsis, I applaud you for developing an emotionally charged and passionate story premise. However, the first thing that sticks out about the script are the lack of properly structured story acts. Put bluntly, professional script readers want to read stories that have arcs that are similar to: Set-Up/ Problem/ Solution (good, bad or indifferent). They consider these types of scripts to be "high concept"... which is another way of saying that it has the potential to get made and make money for the studio. This applies to both big production films and independent. How do I know this? Not only have I written and pitched full feature films, but I have interviewed more than a dozen Hollywood studio execs that communicated the same thing. Yes, there are a few exceptions... but the majority of those exceptions involve being closely connected to film makers with proven track records of making money, or smaller independent studios willing to invest in your story... which in a lot of cases, you end up giving away your creative control.
