Guidelines for completion of the portfolio At the end of the first teaching block, students will be required to submit a portfolio comprising of three elements: • a reflective piece including the reflective statement started during Teaching Week 2, edited to reflect peer and tutor feedback, and the self-appraisal and development plan started in TW12; this reflective piece should be around 800 words (+/- 10%), with the development plan in table format (200 words maximum); we advise that the reflective piece is divided approximately equally between the reflective statement and the self-appraisal; The argumentative essay, edited to reflect peer and tutor feedback received for the outline; this short essay should be around 1,000 words (+/- 10%). a log of evidence of engagement with the module (formative assessments, received peer and tutor formative feedback, evidence of meeting with their personal tutor). A pro-forma for the portfolio can be found on Study Space (Assessments/Portfolio), and marking criteria are in Appendix X. Instructions for the reflective statement In approximately 500 words, reflect on your engagement with your academic studies and professional development during your first year. This should include what has gone well, any difficulties you may have experienced, and what steps you have taken to try to enhance your academic performance and your professional profile. You should also make sure to discuss how you will take further steps in Year 2, to address remaining difficulties. 21 (Think about things such as how much reading you have done, have attendance and timekeeping been good, have you met your personal/professional tutor, how you did on your coursework and your exam, etc.). Instructions for the self-appraisal Using your initial reflection at the start of the Teaching Block, feedback you have received on it, and what you have learnt about yourself (your personality, your Career management skills, your academic writing skills) during the Teaching Block, write around 300 words of self-appraisal: have you developed yourself during the Teaching Block, how have you, what success did you achieve, what could you improve, etc. Then make a development plan, using the SMART technique discussed in class; this should be in a table format, of a maximum of 200 words (approximately).
