Quick question first: when Excel hangs on a large file, is it during load, while calculating, or during autosave specifically? That narrows it down fast, load lag usually points to a bloated used range or a heavy add-in, calculation lag points to volatile formulas or an oversized data model, and autosave stalls usually mean a OneDrive sync conflict. My plan: check startup items and Excel add-ins first since those cause most of this, run an Office repair pass, verify with SFC/DISM for corrupted system files, and a quick malware scan to rule that out. I record boot time and your slow file's load time before touching anything, then again after, so you can see the actual difference. Comfortable with AnyDesk or TeamViewer, whichever you already have installed.

When Excel is slow but the rest of Office is fine, it's usually one of three things: an add-in loading on every start, a workbook whose "used range" runs down to row 1,048,576 because of stray formatting, or a large file in a OneDrive folder that AutoSave re-syncs on every change. I'd check those first, before touching the system. Plan, over AnyDesk while you watch: - Baseline first: boot time, open time for your slowest Excel file, and a Task Manager snapshot - A restore point, then startup and bloatware cleanup, SFC/DISM, a malware scan, and driver and Windows updates - Excel: add-ins tested one by one, calculation mode checked, then an Office Quick/Online Repair if needed - A before-and-after table plus a written list of every change, so it's all reversible One tip: save very large workbooks as .xlsb; they're smaller and usually open faster than .xlsx.
