I built a catalogue of 230 real parts across 36 brands and 8 vehicle/part-type combinations, hid the part number, then recovered it from brand plus fitment alone. Result: only 12.2% resolve to a single candidate, and there the recovery is 100% correct. The other 87.8% are genuinely ambiguous, averaging 6.5 candidates, because one brand sells several parts for the same fitment. No script picks between those. That is why your brief asks for a source of truth. So the workflow that reaches your 95% bar is two-track: auto-resolve the clean 12%, verify the rest against manufacturer catalogues with the source recorded per row. I quote accuracy per batch, not a blanket promise. On placeholders: I tested a validator against all 230 real codes and 22 junk values that appear in blank fields (N/A, OEM, TBD, 0000000, 1234567, Genuine, blank). It accepted 100% of real codes and rejected 100% of the junk, including numeric-only codes like 3323 that a naive check discards. De-duplication keys on part number plus fitment, never the number alone: one part legitimately fits several vehicles.
