This is one of those projects I would like to try but have learned not to do. For starters if you are doing long exposure times (and if you are star tracking then you probably are) then you will need a system with very little vibration. What you need to know is that I have an extensive background in robotics, motion control and motor control and vibration free systems are the HARDEST to do. My bet is have looked at the hobby systems for amateur star gazing and found they are expensive. There is a reason for that its called getting the motor control to not vibrate. There are some very cheap stepper motor control systems but they vibrate the worst. Its because they don't move they step. Servos are smoother but then they are also harder to set up. There are some very good small precision servo manufacturers, but like everything the better you get the more it costs. Get me some more details and I will see if or how I can help.
