I have a list of 150 industries and need to look up the SIC code for each industry. I did the first 10 as an example and are done in excel. -for each industry, come up with a list of keywords. example: for Industry=Accounting, keywords are accounting, accountant, tax -Use the "Starting point" and search a website that does SIC code lookups. Use the shortest applicable number. For example (A) "Airlines/Aviation" = SIC code 45 (transportation by air) and many sub codes are under that. For (B) "Alternative Dispute resolution" the SIC code is 738907 (arbitration services... which is very specific. For (C) "Arts and Crafts" the SIC code is a range of 594501-594599. The goal is to, if possible, use a general category. when that is not applicable, use a specific code and when that is not correct, use a range of codes. The examples given are on the sheet I started. You can try my examples on the [login to view URL] website for my examples A,B,C -So I can provide feedback, the project will be done on a google doc, so I can help with any questions. -The 10 examples I did took about 1-2 minutes each. So it is less than 5 hours of work.
