Hello, I made a simple shopping list app in React for me and my family. There is no backend, everything is stored in the browser. It was fine until I added tabs myself (All / To Buy / Bought) following a YouTube video. Since then things are broken. I am not a programmer. There are 3 problems: 1. After I reload the page, some items are missing. Mostly the one I added last. 2. When I edit an item, sometimes another item gets changed, not the one I clicked on. 3. The "Remove bought" button removes items that are NOT bought when I am on the To Buy tab. The code is in a private GitHub repo, around 650 lines. I can invite you as a collaborator. I need it done in 1-2 days. In your bid, tell me what you think is the reason for problem 1.

Hi there, You asked about problem 1, so here's my guess: the app stores your list in the browser one step too early — it saves the list as it was before the new item is added. The new item shows up on screen, but it never gets stored. That's why it's always the newest one that's missing after a reload. If that's the cause, the delete button most likely has the same mistake.

Hi, with 15+ years of experience in React and JavaScript development, I can diagnose and fix these issues without unnecessarily rewriting your app. For problem 1, my first suspicion is that the tab changes introduced a state/localStorage synchronization issue—possibly the updated list is being saved from stale state, causing the most recently added item to be missing after reload. I’d verify this against the actual code before making any assumptions. I can also trace the incorrect item editing and the “Remove bought” filtering logic, fix the underlying state/ID handling, and test all three workflows across reloads and tab changes. Since the app is only around 650 lines, I can work directly within your existing structure and keep the solution simple and maintainable. I can complete this within your 1–2 day requirement.

Hi, I believe problem 1 is most likely caused by the way the shopping list state is being saved to "localStorage" after adding an item. With the recent tabs/filter changes, there may be a stale state or incorrect save/update sequence, causing the latest item to be missing after reload. I can review the private GitHub repository, identify the root cause of all three issues, and fix them without adding unnecessary complexity. I’ll also make sure the All / To Buy / Bought tabs work correctly, item editing targets the correct item, and “Remove bought” only removes items whose status is actually bought. -/ Could you invite me to the private GitHub repository so I can review the current code? -/ Is "localStorage" currently being used to persist the shopping list? I can complete the fixes within your requested 1–2 days and explain the changes in simple terms since you mentioned you’re not a programmer. Hi, I can debug the React shopping list and trace each issue through state updates, localStorage persistence, tab filtering, and item identification. For problem 1, the most likely cause is that localStorage is being written from stale state immediately after adding an item, so the latest update is overwritten on reload; I will verify this against the add handler and persistence effect. I will also check whether array indexes are being used as React keys or item identifiers, which can explain incorrect edits and tab-dependent removal. I’ll keep the existing browser-only approach, make the smallest reliable fixes, and test adding, editing, filtering, reloading, and removing bought items across the full flow. Regards Muhammad

Hello, I can debug the React shopping list and resolve all three tab, editing, and persistence issues within your 1-2 day timeframe. Problem 1 is most likely caused by saving a stale state value to localStorage immediately after setState, or by a persistence effect with incorrect dependencies, causing the newest item to be omitted after reload. I’ll trace the state flow, item identifiers, filtering logic, and storage synchronization. I also suggest adding a small regression test for each tab action. The first place I’ll trace is the add-item → localStorage write path: problem 1 most likely comes from saving a stale items array, or overwriting storage when the tab/filter state changes, so the newest item never reaches persistent storage before reload. I’ll inspect the roughly 650-line React app, then fix persistence, item identity, and filtering together: stable IDs should drive editing rather than filtered array indexes, while “Remove bought” must update the full source list instead of the visible To Buy subset. I’ll return the corrected code and a working shopping list app within 2 days, including verification of reloads, edits, tabs, and removal behavior. Can you invite me to the private GitHub repo with the current version? Muhammad Saad

Greetings, I see you’re facing some challenges with your React shopping list app after adding tabs. It sounds like a fun project for you and your family! The issues you're experiencing seem to stem from state management and how items are being stored after a page reload. For example, problem 1 likely occurs because the last item is either not being saved correctly or is being overwritten when the state is updated. To tackle these problems, I would dive into your code to identify how the state is managed and ensure that the item updates are correctly tied to the UI actions you want. I’ll also check how the tab functionality interacts with the item list to fix the removal and editing issues. I’m ready to help you get this sorted out quickly and efficiently! The missing-last-item issue is probably a state sync problem: the new item gets added in the UI, but the saved browser copy is still using the previous array, so after reload the most recent entry disappears. The edit/remove problems sound related too, especially if the tabbed view is acting on filtered indexes rather than the original item reference. I’ve handled this type of React cleanup before in small personal tools and dashboard widgets where filters were added later and started breaking edits and deletes. My approach would be to trace the add/edit/delete flow, verify how items are keyed, and make the storage + tab behavior consistent across All, To Buy, and Bought. I can keep this focused and lightweight since the app is only around 650 lines. - Are the items stored with a unique id, or just by array position? - After the fix, would you like me to leave short comments in the changed parts so it’s easier for you to follow later?

Hi, I can debug and fix all three React issues in your existing shopping list without rebuilding the app, and I can work directly in your private GitHub repository. I’m an Expert React Developer with 8+ years of experience debugging state management, localStorage persistence, list rendering and filtering issues. For problem 1, my first suspicion is the way the list state is being saved to localStorage after adding an item. A common issue is saving a stale state value immediately after setState, so the newest item is not included when localStorage is updated. I’ll verify this in your actual code before changing anything. I can fix: 1. Reliable localStorage persistence after adding/editing/removing items 2. Incorrect item editing, likely involving unstable/index-based keys or item identification 3. Remove Bought logic so it operates on the complete underlying list, not the currently filtered To Buy view 4. All / To Buy / Bought tab behavior 5. Any related state synchronization issues introduced with the tabs I’ll test adding, editing, refreshing, filtering, marking bought and removing items in different combinations to make sure the fixes are stable. I can start as soon as you provide GitHub access and complete this within your requested 1–2 days. Thanking you, All the very best, Cheers!!

Hi, I am Adeel. You asked what I think is behind problem 1, so here is my best guess without seeing the code. The last item is usually the one missing because the save to browser storage runs before React has applied the newest update. The save reads the old list, so the latest item never gets written. Problems 2 and 3 look like the same family of bug from the tabs. Editing and removing are probably using the position in the filtered list instead of each item's own ID. That would explain why the wrong item changes and why Remove bought hits unbought items on the To Buy tab. I build and debug React front ends for a living, so this is a small, clear fix. I can start as soon as I get the repo invite, and I will explain each fix in plain words since you are not a programmer. Does each item in your list currently have a unique ID, or is it just text and a checkbox?

When an app experiences issues like missing items, incorrect edits, and unexpected removals, the underlying problem often lies in state management and how data is being handled across different components. To avoid any risk of data lost or disruption, I will work directly within your existing setup without affecting your live application. Safe staging build: I will create a local copy of your app for testing. Issue diagnosis: I will analyze the code to identify the root causes of the problems. Implement fixes: I will address the three specified issues in the app. Testing and validation: I will make sure everything works as intended before finalizing. Regarding problem 1, it’s likely due to how the app is managing state during re-renders, particularly with the last added item not being save correctly. I look forward to collaborating with you on this project. My rate for this work is 169 CAD, and I can complet it within your timeframe. Rajavel

Hi, Problem 1 is almost always a stale save on reload. When you add an item, the new state is set but the code reads the old state when writing to localStorage, so the last item never makes it to storage before refresh. This usually shows up as a useEffect with the wrong dependency array, or a save that runs on the previous array instead of the updated one. The same root cause often explains problem 2, state updated by index instead of by a stable id. I build React front ends and have shipped production apps on it. Invite me to the repo and I'll start with a milestone so you release payment only once all three are fixed. Which browser are you testing in? Adil

Hello, I can fix these three issues in your React shopping list app within 1 day after getting access to the repository. For problem 1, I suspect the browser storage is being updated using an older copy of the items list. React state updates are asynchronous, so saving immediately after adding an item can leave the newest item out of localStorage. I’ll check the code to confirm the cause. The editing issue may come from using filtered-list indexes to identify items. The “Remove bought” issue may have a similar cause, with the action targeting the wrong items after filtering. I’ll fix the issues and test adding, editing, removing and reloading across all three tabs. You can review the fixes before payment. Thanks

Hello, I see that you’re facing some issues with your React shopping list app after adding tabs. It sounds like a fun project for your family! I’d love to help you debug the problems you're encountering. From what you've described, it seems like the missing items after a reload could be due to how the state is managed when switching tabs, possibly not preserving the last added item properly. With my 7+ years of experience in web development and debugging, I can take a close look at your code to identify and fix these issues. I’m familiar with React and the challenges that can come with state management and user interactions. Could you clarify how you are currently storing the state and switching between tabs? This will help me understand the context better. Best regards, Ivan Mandinski

For problem 1, my first suspicion would be a state-management bug — usually direct mutation of the shopping list array or relying on stale state during updates. In React apps, that often shows up as items not refreshing properly, duplicate behavior, or actions appearing to work only part of the time. I’ve fixed similar React app issues involving hooks, list keys, conditional rendering, async updates, and event/state mismatches. With debugging jobs, the important part is not just making the error disappear, but confirming the whole add/remove/update flow still behaves correctly after the fix. If you share the current behavior of problem 1, I can confirm the likely cause right away. - Is this built with functional components and hooks? - Are there any console errors showing when problem 1 happens?

Hi there, Looking at the problem with your React app, it seems that the issues could be related to state management and how data is being stored in the browser. For the first problem, missing items after a reload could suggest that the new state is not being saved correctly before attempting to render. Regarding the edit issue, it might involve incorrect key assignment when rendering list items, which could lead to mismatched updates. Lastly, the "Remove bought" function might need to check the item’s status against its tab state before performing action. Let's resolve these issues swiftly. I can take a look at your code and provide a fix within 1 day. Please invite me as a collaborator on your GitHub repo, and I’ll start diagnosing the problems right away. Best, Ali

React debugging, browser storage, and GitHub fixes are my lane. The last item disappearing likely means the app saves old React state before the new item is included, which I would verify in your code. How does your app currently save items to browser storage, can you share that code? Saving inside the add handler versus after state changes matters because React updates are not immediate. I would check stable item IDs for editing, make "Remove bought" operate on the full list rather than the active tab, and test reloads across all tabs. Message me with the storage code and repo access details so I can map the fixes?
