School Project Here is the write up: Ace Messenger Service is a start-up company that has been fortunate enough to experience substantial growth in its first six months of business. Its business is mainly same day rush deliveries in Southern California. They are based in Downtown Los Angeles and provide rush deliveries throughout southern California where deliveries originate mainly in downtown L.A. The initial system that ACE used to track business was a manual file system. Deliveries were scheduled via telephone call and each delivery had a delivery slip with information pertaining to customer, pick-up location, delivery address, signature of recipient and time of delivery. All invoicing as well as employee commissions well manually calculated from delivery slips as well. This system worked as well as it could when there was a small number of customers and deliveries. Yet with over 25 customers with over 150 deliveries per day, ACE needs a more streamlined way of tracking deliveries, invoicing customers as well as handling payroll and sales commissions for it employees which has grown to a staff of 30 personnel. An Access database consisting of several tables including EMPLOYEE, CUSTOMER, DELIVERY, SALES and PAYROLL will streamline ACE internal working under one application to input data and generate invoices as well as calculate the company payroll. Gathering of information for most the tables will come from ACE’s manual files system. Customers will provide information for the delivery table at the time an order is placed. Other tables such as EMPLOYEE and CUSTOMER will be the existing roster of both employees and customers. DELIVERY table of destinations and charges are based on mileage but also can vary from customer to customer based on monthly volume. The database application that this project will be built in is MS Access. I hope that the maximum space for a database does not become an issue as far as this project is concerned. That would be the one drawback may cause issues. On the upside for MS Access, it allows for forms. Forms are like display cases in stores that make it easier to view or get the items that you want.
