Hello, I understand you need Canadian developer but hear me out. We built about 4 messaging app(references can be provided). There are actually three approaches for that. 1. Using XMPP server, complete NoSQL DBs and client apps. This can cost lots of time and investment but end result can be as good as Whatsapp. 2. Use APIs like OpenTok etc, this can be easy to implement but if users get big, you will regret the decision as it turns out way too costly. 3. Using websockets and build custom, it in between 1 and 2 from both cost and effort point of view. In my option, React is not good choice for this kind of app as lots of things need to be stored within and the level of customizations you need for IM app, like Reply to and jump to message and animations, i doubt it will be easy for react to do at all.
