Convert a Perl script to an Arduino scetch.

I have an old Perl script that run on a Linux system. With the availability now of Arduino I would like to move this function over from my linux system. The old Perl code simply monitored all incoming rs232 traffic and when certain criteria matched it would send it via an IP Socket to a central server to process. There are two versions for different hardware they monitor, but both essentially the same, one just has an extra step to convert to the same string as the other before sending on to the server. One small change to make is instead of using an IP Socket I will be changing the code on the receiving server to us PHP POST so the Sketch should be sending as HTTP POST data. The Hardware will be: Arduino UNO with Ethernet Shield I am able to make small configuration changes once I receive the code for testing I will send versions of the code via chat upon request.
