I need my existing AWS account transformed into a fully automated, production-ready environment. The goal is to design the architecture, configure every layer, and then codify it so that future changes are repeatable and version-controlled. Scope of work • Architect an environment that reliably runs our web applications, data-processing jobs, and upcoming machine-learning models on EC2 with persistent storage on S3. • Build an Infrastructure as Code baseline (Terraform or CloudFormation) that provisions VPC, subnets, security groups, EC2 launch templates, Auto Scaling groups, Application Load Balancers, and the supporting IAM roles and policies. • Automate the entire deployment process through a CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or similar) so that pushing to the main branch promotes all services through staging to production without manual steps. • Implement dynamic scaling and load-balancing rules to keep response times low while optimising cost. • Wire in centralised logging and metrics to CloudWatch (or an equivalent open-source stack) and set sensible alarms for CPU, memory, 5xx rates, and custom business KPIs. Deliverables 1. Source-controlled IaC repository with clear README. 2. Pipeline configuration files and minimal documentation showing how to trigger deployments. 3. Diagram of the final architecture. 4. One-hour hand-off call or recorded walkthrough demo. Acceptance criteria – Running terraform/apply (or the CloudFormation stack) from a clean account produces the same environment described. – A single commit can push an updated container image all the way to production with zero downtime. – Auto Scaling adds and removes EC2 instances based on a sample load test. – CloudWatch (or chosen stack) raises an alert when thresholds are breached. If this is clear, tell me which IaC toolkit and CI/CD stack you prefer and why you think it fits best here.

You need an existing AWS account converted into a repeatable production platform where infrastructure, deployments, scaling, and monitoring are fully defined in code. I prefer Terraform with GitHub Actions here. Terraform gives clear state, reusable modules, plan reviews, and consistent staging/production environments; GitHub Actions keeps application and infrastructure delivery close to the source repository. At Marin Software, I built serverless Python and real-time pipelines across AWS Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, SQS, and EventBridge. I’ll define the VPC, subnets, ALB, EC2 launch templates, Auto Scaling, IAM, S3, CloudWatch dashboards, and alarms as modular Terraform. The pipeline will build and version container images, apply reviewed infrastructure changes, deploy through staging, and promote to production using rolling or blue/green updates. I’ll validate clean-account provisioning, scaling under load, rollback behavior, and alert delivery, then provide the diagram, README, and walkthrough. Are your applications already containerized, and how many staging/production services are involved?

You want your AWS account rebuilt from the ground up as a fully automated, production-ready platform covering web apps, data pipelines, and ML workloads, with zero manual deployments going forward. Here is the plan: Terraform provisions VPC, public/private subnets, security groups, ALB, EC2 launch templates, and Auto Scaling groups. GitHub Actions drives the CI/CD pipeline, promoting through staging to production on every main branch push. CloudWatch handles centralised logging, alarms on CPU, memory, 5xx rates, and any custom KPIs you define. All IAM roles follow least-privilege. S3 backs persistent storage and Terraform remote state. I have built near-identical stacks for SaaS platforms and data-heavy workloads, so the patterns here are familiar territory, not experimentation. Timeline: architecture diagram and Terraform baseline by day five, CI/CD pipeline wired and staging environment live by day ten, production cutover, CloudWatch alarms, and handoff call by day fourteen. One question before I scope the estimate precisely: are your existing EC2 workloads currently using any containerisation like ECS or Docker, or is this purely instance-based, and do you have an existing staging environment or are we building that from scratch?

Hi, I'm a Software Architect with 11+ years building production AWS infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines. I understand the real challenge here: this isn't just spinning up EC2 - it's codifying the whole environment (VPC, subnets, security groups, ASGs, ALB, IAM) so a clean terraform apply reproduces it exactly, then wiring a zero-downtime pipeline on top of it. What I'll deliver: - Terraform IaC baseline: VPC/subnets/security groups, EC2 launch templates, Auto Scaling groups, ALB, IAM roles/policies - CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions or CodePipeline) that promotes a container image from main to staging to production with zero downtime - Dynamic scaling rules tuned against a sample load test - CloudWatch logging/metrics with alarms on CPU, memory, 5xx rate and a custom business KPI - Source-controlled repo with README, architecture diagram, and a recorded walkthrough I'd lean Terraform + GitHub Actions here - cleaner state management than CloudFormation and faster to iterate on than CodePipeline, but happy to match whatever your team already runs. I've built exactly this kind of IaC + zero-downtime deployment setup before. I work fast, ask minimal questions mid-project, and deliver exactly what's scoped. Let's build this right.

Hi — you asked which IaC and CI/CD stack and why, so I'll answer that directly and then flag three things in your acceptance criteria that will bite whoever takes this. Terraform over CloudFormation. Not because CloudFormation is bad — it's fine, and it's better if you want zero external tooling and native drift detection. Terraform wins here for two specific reasons: your brief mentions upcoming ML models, and if any of that touches a non-AWS service (a model registry, a monitoring SaaS, a DNS provider) Terraform covers it with the same workflow while CloudFormation needs custom resources. Second, `terraform plan` gives a genuinely readable diff before apply, which matters a lot when the pipeline is promoting to production unattended. GitHub Actions over CodePipeline, assuming your code is on GitHub. CodePipeline is more work to define, and the feedback loop is worse. Actions keeps the pipeline definition next to the code it deploys. If you're on CodeCommit or Bitbucket, that flips. Now the three problems. Your first acceptance criterion says a clean account should reproduce the environment. With Terraform that's circular: remote state lives in an S3 bucket with a DynamoDB lock table, and those have to exist before Terraform can use them. The fix is a small separate bootstrap stack, run once, that creates the state backend — after which everything else is genuinely reproducible. It's not hard, but if it isn't planned for, the "clean account" test fails on the first run and everyone blames the wrong thing. Your alarms list includes memory. EC2 does not report memory to CloudWatch by default — the hypervisor can't see inside the instance. You need the CloudWatch agent installed and configured via the launch template, and it needs its own IAM permissions. A lot of setups ship without this and nobody notices until they need the metric during an incident. Zero-downtime deploys on EC2 Auto Scaling are not automatic. A naive launch template update replaces instances and drops connections. You need either instance refresh with a minimum healthy percentage, or blue-green across two target groups on the ALB. Blue-green is cleaner and gives you an instant rollback, at the cost of running double capacity briefly during deploys. I'd go blue-green unless cost during deploys is a concern. On scope: this reads as a defined project rather than open-ended support, which is how I'd like to work it — build to your four deliverables and the acceptance criteria, hand over, done. I'd rather that than an indefinite retainer. Deliverables as listed: IaC repo with README, pipeline config with docs, architecture diagram, and the hand-off walkthrough. I'd add a documented teardown path, because an environment you can't cleanly destroy is one you can't cheaply test. Questions: is your code on GitHub, do you have existing resources in the account that need importing rather than creating, and are the web apps containerised already or running directly on instances? The import question matters most — adopting existing infrastructure into Terraform is a different job from greenfield, and your brief says "existing AWS account". We're a two-person team, new to this platform, which is why the rate is below the current average here.
