WEB DEVELOPER WANTED — HOSPOHELPER I’m looking for a web developer interested in helping me turn an idea I’ve been working on into a functioning website. The idea: HospoHelper HospoHelper is a free website aimed at helping young and casual hospitality workers in Australia understand what they should actually be getting paid — and what they can do if something doesn’t look right. The idea comes from a pretty significant problem: underpayment remains widespread in Australia’s hospitality sector. The Fair Work Ombudsman identifies fast food, restaurants and cafés as a priority sector because of persistent and significant non-compliance. In 2024–25 alone, the regulator recovered $3.1 million for 1,814 underpaid workers in the sector.¹ And individual compliance operations have found striking rates of non-compliance. Recent Fair Work investigations found: * 93% of investigated food businesses in a Perth operation had breached workplace laws, with more than $769,000 recovered for 379 workers.² * 81% of businesses investigated during a south-east Melbourne operation had breached workplace laws.³ * In 2023–24, $5.6 million was recovered for 3,056 underpaid workers in fast food, restaurants and cafés nationally.⁴ The problem is particularly relevant to younger workers. The Fair Work Ombudsman notes that the sector employs large numbers of young people, casual and part-time workers and visa holders, some of whom may be unaware of their workplace rights or reluctant to speak up when something seems wrong.¹ At the same time, actually figuring out what you’re entitled to isn’t necessarily straightforward. Awards, classifications, casual loading, evening rates, weekend penalty rates, overtime, allowances and public holidays can all affect what someone should receive. For a university student working a few shifts at a pub, café or restaurant, answering one basic question can therefore become surprisingly complicated: “I worked these hours this week. How much should I have been paid?” That’s the question I want HospoHelper to make much easier to answer. How it would work The initial version of HospoHelper would centre around a simple, user-friendly wage calculator. A worker could enter information such as: * their age and employment type; * their role/classification; * the days and hours they worked; * breaks; * weekend/evening work; * whether a shift fell on a public holiday; and * what they were actually paid. HospoHelper would then provide an estimated amount they should have received, explain how that estimate was calculated, and allow them to compare it against their actual pay. For example: Estimated pay: $842.60 Actual gross pay: $764.20 Potential difference: $78.40 But I don’t want the website to stop at identifying a possible discrepancy. “I think I’ve been underpaid. What now?” One feature I’d particularly like to explore is a guided underpayment pathway. If HospoHelper identifies a potential discrepancy, the user could be taken through a simple step-by-step process explaining what they can do next. This could include helping the user: 1. Double-check their pay Understand their classification, applicable rates and exactly how the estimate was calculated. 2. Check their payslip Know what information to look for and identify where a discrepancy might have occurred. 3. Raise it with their employer HospoHelper could generate a simple, non-confrontational message that the worker can send to their manager asking them to check their pay. 4. Keep the right records Explain the importance of retaining things like payslips, rosters, timesheets, employment documents and relevant messages. 5. Know where to go next If the issue isn’t resolved, provide straightforward information about external assistance and direct users towards official resources such as the Fair Work Ombudsman. The aim isn’t for HospoHelper to replace professional or official advice or definitively determine that an employer has broken the law. It’s about giving workers an accessible starting point to check their pay, understand it, and know what they can do if something doesn’t seem right. Where it’s currently at This is an early-stage concept. I’ve purchased the domain and have the core idea, target audience and initial functionality in mind, but I’m looking for someone with the technical skills to help turn it into a working product. I’m also very open to ideas about additional functionality and how HospoHelper could develop beyond the initial MVP. Who I’m looking for I’m looking for someone with web development experience who could help take HospoHelper from concept to a functioning MVP. You don’t necessarily need years of professional experience. I’d be interested in speaking with university students, recent graduates, freelancers or experienced developers who like the idea and think they could build it. Experience with responsive web development, databases/APIs, UI/UX, web calculators or similar projects would obviously be useful. Most importantly, I’m looking for someone reliable who is interested in helping create something that could be genuinely useful for young Australian workers. Payment/budget: Open to discussion depending on the proposed approach and scope. If this sounds interesting, send me a message with a little about yourself, anything you’ve built previously, and how you think you’d approach the project. Happy to share more details and chat through the idea privately. ⸻ Sources 1. Fair Work Ombudsman, Annual Report 2024–25. 2. **HospoHelper** Based on your requirements, I understand HospoHelper as a practical MVP for young and casual hospitality workers in Australia to quickly check whether their pay looks right, understand how the estimate was calculated, and know what steps to take if there is a possible underpayment. For the MVP, I would keep the site simple, fast, and scalable, with an admin-friendly structure so rates/content can be updated as rules change. -/ Which hospitality Award or worker group should we support first for the MVP? -/ Will wage rates be entered manually in the system, pulled from official sources, or updated through an admin panel? -/ Do you want users to create accounts and save checks, or should it work anonymously? -/ Should the calculator generate a downloadable PDF/email summary for the worker? Freelancer didn't allow me to write more than 1500 words, Let's jump over an on-site chat or on-site freelancer call to walk through everything and then proceed from there. The real challenge here is not just putting up a website for HospoHelper, but making the pay estimate feel trustworthy and easy enough for a young hospitality worker to use without getting lost in award rules, penalty rates, breaks, and public holiday variations. I’d approach this as an MVP web app: first map the wage logic carefully, then build a simple flow where users enter shifts, see the estimate breakdown clearly, and get guided next-step actions if something looks off. I’ve worked on custom websites and tools where the important part was turning messy rules into a clean user experience, including responsive builds, database-backed forms, calculators, and structured user pathways. For your project, the calculation model and explanation layer matter just as much as the design, because users need to understand why a discrepancy appears, not just see a number. A good starting point would be to define the first version tightly so the MVP stays practical and accurate. - Which hospitality award(s) do you want version 1 to cover first? - Do you want the calculator logic based fully on stored rate tables, or are you open to pulling some data from official sources/APIs where possible? - Should the “raise it with employer” step generate a downloadable message/email template inside the site?

Hi there, HospoHelper is a meaningful concept, and I’d be glad to help turn it into a clear, reliable MVP for Australian hospitality workers. I can build a responsive website with a user-friendly wage calculator, structured award-rate data, pay comparisons, explanatory results, and a guided underpayment pathway. I’d recommend designing the calculation logic as a versioned rules engine so award updates can be maintained safely over time. I can also help shape the MVP structure, validation, accessibility, and official-resource links while keeping the tool clearly informational rather than legal advice. Hi there I can develop HospoHelper as a clean, responsive and easy-to-use web platform focused on helping Australian hospitality workers understand their estimated pay and identify potential discrepancies. I’ve already developed similar calculator-driven and rule-based platforms involving dynamic inputs, calculations, APIs, databases and user-friendly workflows. My approach would be: • Build a responsive UI for worker details, employment type, classification, shifts, breaks, penalties and public holidays. • Develop a reliable calculation engine for award rates, casual loading, overtime and applicable penalties. • Add actual-vs-estimated pay comparison with a clear breakdown of how the estimate was calculated. • Build the guided underpayment pathway with payslip guidance, record-keeping steps and employer message generation. • Integrate/structure official Fair Work information and resources with a scalable backend/database. • Test edge cases thoroughly and deploy a fast, mobile-friendly MVP. Two questions: Do you already have the relevant Fair Work award/rate rules and classifications defined, or should I help structure them into the calculation engine? Should the first MVP support one hospitality award/classification structure, or multiple awards from launch? I’d be happy to discuss the MVP scope and suggest a practical architecture and roadmap. Thanks Rahul

The heart of HospoHelper is a pay checker a young worker can trust, and the thing that makes or breaks that is where the award rates live — Australian hospitality pay depends on the HRIGA award, which updates every July and varies by age, casual loading, penalty rates and public holidays, so I'd build those rates as editable data you can update when Fair Work changes them, never hard-coded, with the effective date shown so the result is always defensible. A worker answers a few plain questions (age, casual or part-time, shift times, day) and sees what they should have been paid versus what they got, then clear next steps linking to the official Fair Work resources. I'd keep it genuinely anonymous — no login, nothing stored about their workplace unless they choose to — since fear of being identified is exactly why people don't speak up. Built mobile-first and fast, because this gets opened on a phone after a shift. One honest note: I'd frame results as guidance pointing to Fair Work, not legal advice, to keep it safe and credible. Rather than talk abstractly, I'd happily build the pay-checker flow first so you can test it directly. Available to start right away.

Hi, I would love to help you build HospoHelper so young workers in Australia can easily check their pay against fair work laws and see if they are missing money from their shifts. We can build this using a clean front end in React or simple JavaScript for the wage calculator, so the inputs for age, role, hours, and penalty rates calculate instantly without page reloads. The layout will be simple and mobile friendly since most hospitality workers will check their pay on their phones right after work. We can also design a clear step by step path that guides users on what to do if their actual pay does not match the estimated amount. As a smart addition, we can add a simple tool that lets users download a neat summary of their wage comparison as a PDF to keep for their own records. Would you like the calculator to handle split shifts and public holiday rates right from the first version? Best, Salma Noreen

Hello, HospoHelper is a meaningful concept, and I would be pleased to help turn it into a clear, reliable MVP for Australian hospitality workers. I would structure the website around a responsive wage calculator, guided inputs, transparent calculation explanations, and an accessible underpayment pathway. A practical first release could use a maintainable web stack with a structured rates database, allowing award rules and rate updates to be managed without rebuilding the interface. I would also recommend adding an assumptions and sources section beside each estimate so users understand the result and its limitations. The MVP can be developed in clear stages, beginning with calculator logic and validation, followed by the guidance flow, employer message generator, and testing across devices. I would focus on usability, privacy, and plain-English content throughout. Regards Muhammad

Greetings, I’m excited about the opportunity to help you bring HospoHelper to life. Your idea to create a user-friendly wage calculator for young hospitality workers in Australia addresses a crucial issue of underpayment that many face. By simplifying the process of understanding pay entitlements, you’re providing a valuable resource that could empower workers to know their rights. To tackle this, I would focus on building a responsive website with an intuitive interface that guides users through inputting their work details and understanding their pay. Additionally, incorporating a step-by-step underpayment pathway will enhance the user experience and ensure that workers know their next steps if discrepancies arise. I have experience in web development, particularly in creating interactive tools and ensuring a smooth user experience, which I believe aligns well with your vision for HospoHelper. I look forward to discussing this project further. Best regards, Saba Ehsan

Hey, The real value of HospoHelper is not just calculating pay, it’s making complex awards and penalty rates simple enough for anyone to understand. I can focus the MVP around a clear and intuitive calculation flow, responsive UX and an explanation layer that shows users exactly how the estimate was reached, while keeping the experience clear that it is not providing legal advice. I can help turn the concept into a practical, user friendly MVP and suggest improvements as the workflow takes shape. My focus would be on making the calculations easy to follow while keeping the overall experience simple and reliable. I can also show you similar examples in chat and discuss how I’d approach the product if useful. Portfolio: https://www.freelancer.com/u/Hammadhassan21 Best regards, Hammad Hassan

Hi there, The hidden challenge in HospoHelper is not merely calculating wages, it is making complex award rules feel trustworthy and understandable to a young worker under pressure. I can help shape this concept into a clear, responsive MVP with an intuitive wage calculator, structured inputs for classifications, hours, breaks, penalties and public holidays, transparent calculation explanations, and a guided underpayment pathway. I’ll focus on a maintainable Web Design and Website Design approach, combining thoughtful Web Development with a practical Web Application architecture so the calculator logic, official guidance, employer message generation and future rate updates remain easy to manage. I can also help define the initial data model, validation rules, mobile-first user journey and appropriate disclaimers without presenting the tool as legal advice. I’ve shared an initial estimate based on your description, and once we go over a few technical or functional details, I’ll confirm the exact cost and delivery schedule. A sensible next step is to map the MVP screens and calculation rules together, then build and test the first calculator flow. Which award and classification rules should the MVP support first, and do you already have an authoritative source or data structure for keeping rates current? Hi, HospoHelper is a practical MVP where the most important part is making a complex wage calculation feel simple and trustworthy for a young worker. I can help turn the concept into a clean, responsive web application with the calculator and guided next-step experience as the core. I’d structure the MVP around a clear calculation engine that separates award/rate rules from the UI, making future updates to classifications, penalty rates, casual loading, public holidays and other rules manageable without rebuilding the entire site. Users could enter their employment details, shifts and actual pay, then receive a transparent estimate showing how the result was calculated. I’d also build the underpayment pathway with clear explanations, payslip/record guidance, an employer message generator, and links to authoritative Fair Work resources—while clearly presenting results as estimates rather than legal determinations. Technically, I’d recommend a lightweight responsive frontend with a structured backend/database for rate and rule management, designed so the MVP can later expand into additional calculators and features. I’d start by mapping the calculation rules and user flow, then build the MVP in stages: UI → calculation engine → guided pathway → testing with representative scenarios → deployment. I’d be happy to discuss the concept and suggest practical MVP features based on the initial scope. Best regards, Ali Asif

The key issue here is that workers are not just asking “what is my pay?” but “can I trust this result, and what do I do next?” That means HospoHelper needs two things done well from day one: dependable calculation logic and a very simple guided experience. I’d treat the MVP as a focused custom build with a wage calculator, transparent breakdown screen, and a staged underpayment pathway that keeps the language clear and non-confrontational. I’ve been involved in projects that combine front-end usability with backend logic, where users enter variable data and expect a result that feels credible and easy to follow. In your case, responsive design is important, but the bigger win is structuring the pay rules and edge cases properly so the tool remains useful instead of becoming another confusing resource. There are a few scope decisions that will shape the build a lot. - Do you want the first version to cover juniors and adults across multiple classifications, or start with a narrower subset for accuracy and speed? - Should users be able to save/export their calculation results for record-keeping? - Have you already drafted the guided “what now” steps, or would you want help turning that into site content and UX?
