Continuous Improvement Specialist Task
Overview
As a Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist, a lot of the support you provide to schools will be on site, and some will be remote, via email and phone. There are two parts to this task. The first describes a scenario with a principal; review the prompt and draft an email to the principal in response. The second will require you to fulfill a data request from one of the schools you support. Combined, the tasks should take about one hour.
Task 1
As a CI Specialist, you have been tasked to support school principals as they develop and complete their Comprehensive School Plans (CSP). The CSP is the school’s roadmap and action plan to improving student achievement, community engagement, and school culture. The State Department of Education uses these CSP to formally monitor the progress of the lowest performing schools by conducting official site visits to observe instruction and interview school stakeholders.
One of your lowest performing schools, Adams High School, has its official State site visit coming up next week. Principal X, who reports to Superintendent Z, has been at Adams High School for the past 3 years. You have a cordial professional relationship with Principal X, but he is difficult to get in touch with and rarely responds to your emails. You know that Adams’ CSP is incomplete. One month ago, you initiated an email to Principal X, offering your supports in completing Adams’ CSP. A week later, you visited the school on some other business, but left a message with the secretary requesting a meeting with Principal X. Last week, you called the school only to find that Principal X was out of the building for training.
You know that the Adams High School community can be negatively impacted if the State site visit does not go well. You want to ensure that the leadership and staff feel supported through this process. Where do you go from here?
Your Task:
On the next page, draft an email to Principal X, reporting next steps. Given what you know, how would you respond to this scenario? In addition, please list out your next steps in resolving this issue. Please do not feel compelled to use the whole space provided.
