As senior Designer I was required to oversee the day to day running of all of Penton's titles, including Wedding Journal and Neighbourhood Retailer Magazine. My job also involved in designing promotional materials for associated events such as the Wedding Journal Show. Projects • Redesign of Wedding Journal, one Ireland's top wedding magazines. Working for Smurfit Print & Design, the contact publishing department, meant that as well as producing regular monthly titles I was able to utilise my design skills to create more imaginative work. The job also meant I had more opportunity to liaise with clients and I have had a closer relationship with staff involved in repro and printing. Projects • The Irish Tatler Women of the Year Awards: This was a major project that involved the creation of all the literature for the event which included flyers, tickets and brochures. • The Smurfit Management Trainee Program: A redesign of existing literature to give it a more contemporary feel. • Regular design of titles such as Your New Baby, Auto Woman and Cara, the inflight magazine for Aer Lingus.

Senior Designer

Jul 1999 - Feb 2003 (3 years)

Whilst working at Titan I was involved in many of the company's core projects. The most recent being the launch of a magazine based on the television show 'Robot Wars'. The title is aimed at the youth market, so I created a look that reflects the gritty industrial feel of the show and at the same time has a strong colourful shelf presence. Additional Projects • Dreamwatch: Relaunched company’s first non-licensed science fiction title. Redesigned entire magazine with a cleaner, modern feel, moving it towards the look of the lifestyle market to give it a wider appeal. Promoted to senior designer and as head of the magazine given responsibility for overseeing work of junior designer. • Tomb Raider Comic: Launched title to coincide with the release of the movie. • Book jackets and promotional materials for Titan Books. This involved designing leaflets, posters and invitations for various titles and book launches. • Star Trek Monthly: Employed by Titan to redesign the flagship title. Gave the magazine a more contemporary look whilst maintaining the feel of the television show.
