Pressure inside a CFT with Internal Deflector Prototypes

This image show the time-wise evolution of pressure inside a CFT, with different Internal Deflector (ID) prototypes. These ID were intended to improve CFT hydraulic efficiency. Numerical results showed an improvement in all cases (range: 0.3% - 3.0%). Computations were carried out using Computational Fluid Dynamics suite ANSYS CFX. The analysis was of transient state type, and numerical results of the CFT without an ID were compared with experimental results, obtaining good agreement (numerical results deviation from exp. results < 3% at BEP). This result belongs to a technical paper published in the ASME, 2012 Fluids Engineering Summer Meeting (FEDSM2012). Full title is: "Use of CFD Tools in Internal Deflector Design for Cross-Flow Turbine Efficiency Improvement".
