Hello there. I'm looking for a fun and cool-looking illustrated/cartoonish picture for our kids/family band.

I'm including three images as references.

The cartoon picture (refpic_1) is the very general idea, BUT... PLEASE DON'T COPY THAT LOOK OR STYLE. It's pretty old at this point, and I'm looking for something with a different look and feel than that. But, in the sense of the three of us, as cartoons/illustrations, performing together, then that's the basic idea of what I want now. But other than Eric (singer) being in the middle, Ben (accordion) on the left, and Dave (guitar) on the right, the look and positioning of everyone could be very different from this. Whatever it is, we're a very fun and active band that performs for an audience of kids and families, so it should convey some sense of that. BUT... when I say that we perform for kids, I feel I need to emphasize that we're more tongue-in-cheek, with a more rock style of music, and NOT something meant for toddlers/babies. So the picture needs to be something cool and energetic, not that gives a feeling of little baby music. (Nothing wrong with that, but that isn't what we do.)

We are changing our clothing design for next year, so please refer to refpic_2 for the details on that. Also, Ben (on the left) is now playing only accordion, so that should be pictured instead of a keyboard (pic 2 shows him with an accordion), and Dave is playing an acoustic guitar (not an electric guitar as pictured). By the way, I only included our heights as a way of saying that Ben is taller than Eric and Dave.

As far as detail, it could be very simple or pretty detailed. It really depends on your style and whatever works. I'll be sure to give some kind of feedback on every entry, and if you want to post a sketch entry first and then add another entry with more detail and polish after I've commented, that's fine. I will give the full 8 days before picking a winner.

I would want the final image to be in a Photoshop file with layers. We are still playing around with clothing colors and might want to change the color of someone's pants or shirt or tie or something.

In picture #3 I'm including some different illustrations of me (Eric) that have been done over the years. Not as a specific example, but just to show how some different styles have been used. Really, though, I'm looking for YOUR style, so please don't just copy something else. I'm open to something cool and fun looking, and these pictures are hopefully just a way of saying that a lot of different kinds of things might work. Also, I should mention that I'm older and grayer than I was in these images, and I suppose my graphics should reflect that. :) So where most of these show me with solid dark brown hair, the new image should probably be more like darker brown/black with some gray. Also, lately my hair is cut thinner on the sides and fuller on the top, and I have a goatee instead of a full beard, so please reflect that.

Please include some kind of background, but my primary interest will be how the three of us look. We can potentially change the background later. But if you have a good idea for a background, then sure, go for it. Watermark if you want, of course.

I'm hoping that beyond this contest, I'll want to hire the winner (and maybe a runner-up or two) to do some other pictures of the band with different poses/concepts, so even more important than this specific contest picture is the style and approach and technique you have. We can discuss that later, but I'd like you to know that hopefully this could lead to more work. I've done several projects through Freelancer and have usually been very happy with the work and rehired people from here for multiple projects.

Congrats to Jennifer F.! And a big thank you to everyone who entered. A lot of times in these contests there is a clear winner, but it was amazing to me how diverse our favorite choices were among the band and associates... there were 5-6 entries that were all very strongly considered. In the end, though we disagreed about our favorites, we all most agreed on Jennifer’s entry as being a really great choice, so that’s what we went with. I do love the styles of many of the others who entered, so I very well may want to hire you for a specific illustration or two down the road. Very best to you all!
