Court Bites is a legal educational program that aims to provide legal educational resources to courtroom lawyers and law students in common law jurisdictions.

We require a logo that will feature prominently on our website and in other digital and hard-copy publications. The logo will comprise the following:
1. scales of justice in the centre of the logo
2. 3 x busts/head-shots of:
i. a judge wearing a long judge’s wig at the top/centre of the logo and immediately above the scales of justice, facing forward and looking down;
ii. a female barrister (lawyer) wearing a barrister’s wig on the left side of the logo, and facing the scales of justice and her adversary (male barrister) to the right;
iii. a male barrister (also wigged) on the right side of the logo, facing the scales of justice.
3. The words “Court Bites” somewhere on the logo.

Further requirements include the following:
• The logo must be in coloured cartoon style (see examples below).
• The coloured cartoon, once completed, must also be provided in complete black format (i.e. it is transformable easily into ‘silhouette’ style and the judge, lawyers and scales of justice can still be easily made out).
• PNG and AI/PSD files for both the coloured file and black and white file must be provided by the winning entrant, with the following additional requirements:
o Logo in its entirety to be provided in PNG and AI/PSD with transparent background.
o Each component must be provided in a separate layer (also with transparent background), meaning there must be separate lawyers for:
 the judge
 the female barrister
 the male barrister
 the scales of justice
 the words “Court Bites” (these must also be easily adjustable to uppercase and lowercase, i.e. text, not an image for the words))

Below is a rough idea containing the essentials of what we are looking by way of layout (note this obviously does not reflect the cartoon requirement, just the general positioning). Flexibility is permitted in relation to size, positioning, and cartoon style, provided that the logo ultimately conveys the following impressions:
• the dignified, formal and erudite nature of court proceedings;
• the impartiality and supremacy of the judge
• the dignified, formal, erudite nature of barristers, but also adversity and slight antagonism between the male and female barristers;
• the importance and supremacy of justice
• the complex and finely balanced relationship between all 4 ideas that each image represents.

Thank you for your continued patience. We have narrowed it down to a top 4 (4-stars have been given to these) and a decision will be made in 2 days. Thank you contestants who submitted entries #38 , #44 and #45 . There were quite a few admirers of these logos, however not enough to make it into the top 4 unfortunately.

Contestants should note the following: (1) feedback has been given to individual entrants as they have come in so that they may attempt to improve their entries; (2) as there is only 1 day left, it may be difficult to give further feedback before the contest closes; (3) when the contest closes, our education team will identify up to 8 entries with 3-stars for a poll launch (it is possible that a candidate may have more than 1 entry in the 8 short-listed, so multiple entries are encouraged); (4) we will then launch a poll to gauge the view of members of the legal profession here in Australia s to which they prefer; (5) a decision on the winning logo will then be made and notified later next week.

We are of the view that @alexmcvey who submitted entries #7 to #10 has already set the starting benchmark for this logo contest, surprisingly quite early! Provided those 5 constituent elements are present (judge, female barrister, male barrister, scales, "court bites"), we look forward to seeing other contestants' artistic flair and the variety of interpretation that may achieve our educational goal.

We are also open to the logo being enclosed within a frame of a suitable and aesthetically pleasing shape that enhances its meaning and visual effect. We are also open to other peripheral enhancements being included (e.g., lines, shapes). But any such additions (frames, lines, shapes, etc.) must, like the other constituent elements of the logo, be sevrable from the rest of the logo (i.e. on a separate layer) in the final file provided by the winning entrant.

Essentially there are 2 x logos that are required which contestants should submit next to each other in an entry: (1) the full coloured cartoon-type logo; and (2) the same logo but completely blacked-out against a white background, (i.e. the "silhouette" of logo 1).
