Implementation is to be open sourced. License to be decided on, either a BSD or LGPL3.
Bash shell scripting is highly flexible, I regard the unix shell as the most powerful programming environment.
PYTHON is a widely used scripting language with many libraries.
The purpose of this implementation is to inline python in bash shell scripts. In this way the flexibility of bash shell scripting is combined with the flexibility of python.
Bash support plugins which can be loaded with
enable -f [login to view URL] mycmd
I want to to plugin python into bash like so:
enable -f [login to view URL] py
Then one can run python inline like so:
pyfun1() {
py "$1" $par1,....above) and _read_ the shell environment as global variables. It is not necessary for python to write directly to the shell environment, (it would require intrusive changes in bash), but python should be able to set one resulting shell environment variable equivalent to var=$(echo result) and return status $? should be set.
This specification will be amended as discussion of the bids progresses.
