Telecommute UX Designer for a non-profit

Looking for a high quality UX Designer to design live html mockup pages for our nonprofit websites.

We are in the process of creating several websites that are web apps to help other nonprofits raise awareness and raise donations for their causes. We will let all 1.5 million nonprofits in the U.S. use them for a small admin fee, and we will let nonprofits helping the poorest half of people in the world and environmental nonprofits use them for free to generate donations. So your work will truly be meaningful and have a significant impact on helping others.

We came up with several great fundraising ideas, and rather than keep them to ourselves, we're going to let the other 1.5 million nonprofits use them too. Rather than all nonprofits building the tool from scratch, we're building them, and sharing them for a fee to cover our costs and let us create new ones. The nonprofits we've described the apps to are very eager to use them. This could turn into ongoing work for you.

We need someone who can:

• Put yourself in the shoes of members of the public visiting our sites, and brainstorm and evaluate what would be ideal UX to engage them, and inspire them to donate their time or money to nonprofits.

• At other times execute UX and design ideas that we or our volunteers and nonprofit users come up with.

• Implement the emerging web design aesthetics and principles that are fairly common on SaaS web app sites created in the last two years, particularly the Bay Area-Silicon Valley ones.

• Put the best UI and site workflow options into html mockups, sometimes with alternative mockups for us to consider and test. The mockups need to look and act like real interactive web pages, and link to each other.

• Write most or all of the UX related text such as success messages and basic site instructions. You can also draft some of the main text if you're good at it, but if not, we can do that fine. If your English isn't perfect, we can likely have a copy editor edit your text for grammar so long as the UX reasoning behind your text is good.

• Possibly do user testing if you're good at it, or we might have someone else do that.

We use the minimal viable product (MVP), pretotyping and minimal usable design (MUD) approaches to website creation. If you're not familiar with them, please Google them. You will do a variety of pages from a simple login page to a complex front page that introduces the main themes, has several graphics, and gets visitors excited about using the site. Our UX process will be:

1) Create pretotype html mockups with MUD, and get initial feedback from a small number of people so we can discard the worst, improve the best.

2) Test the improved pretotypes with larger numbers of people to find out what the best are.

3) Have web developers turn the best into MVP sites that are real sites, and launch them.

4) Add additional features and pages to the sites that do the best.

5) Use the admin fees from the best ones to do steps 1-4 for new ideas that we and our volunteers come up with.

Please only apply if you're an individual, or if, for example, you're the co-owner of a small company of less than 8 people and you or 1-2 of your staff members will be the only ones working for us. We want to form an ongoing relationship with someone who knows our approaches. Besides that, no companies or agencies.

This is virtual so you can be based anywhere in the world, 95% will be done through email, so most of the time you don't need to be on IM/phone at the same time as we are, and can work at any time of the day or night you wish. We probably need at least 20 hours a week for the next month, and can probably work with less after one month. If you're a web developer skilled at RoR, Django, NetSuite, we can possibly give you more hours if our developer needs help.
