Create code in either access or .net (which can be called from access project) to merge an access record into a predefined word template. (computer won't have word installed on the computer).
## Deliverables
Hi, I currently have a database in access 2010 which merges data into specified word templates. It does this by writing a record to a text file called ([url removed, login to view]) the word template is linked to the [url removed, login to view] file as the data source and then populates the document with the current record from access. A copy of the file is then saved to a specified folder.
The database will be moving to a terminal server environment with around 100 users and there won't be a word install on the server due to licencing costs. What I intend to do is use open office writer to view the documents. I have had a look at the merge functionality of open office and don't like it. So it will just be used to view / edit the documents once merged.
What I would like to do is either use access (cant use the word object model) or call an external dll /.net program from my access database to copy a specified template to a particular folder and merge the data from the table into it.
What I will do is specify any field to be merged in the word document with <<fieldname>> I need something to go through the document and replace any <<fieldnames>> with corresponding field value for the current record returned in the specified table (tblFETempInquiryCorrespondence) and save it into the folder with the matching InquiryNo (155293 in the attached example). I need the ability to add new fields to this table in the future and for them to have the ability to be merged. It also needs to maintain the formatting/font of what the original text is.
I have attached two examples of the templates. I would really like this to also work with docx files as well.
Thanks
Justin
