Who we are We are a non for profit and non-sectarian Buddhist Organisation, offering its services to all Buddhist traditions. We aim to facilitate a significant Buddhist presence in the ever-expanding realm of computer communications technology, applying this technology to helping make the Buddha's teachings freely available to all. With the guidance of Venerable monks and a team of lay volunteers, we are dedicated to tolerance and harmony with people of all religions regardless of nationality or religious background. Project Overview The Buddhist E-Library is part of a great ambition to distribute the teaching of Buddha throughout the world for free. This project could also be called Buddhist Digital Media Online Library. The E-Library contains assets. Assets are defined as materials and can be in a form of pdf format, music, movie, documents, flash and etc. Each asset must be categorised in such a way it's easy to be searched and viewed where each asset may have an author, owner, multiple media formats, multiple languages, etc. Everyone around the world may contribute any type of media assets whilst each submission will be held in a temporary location for filtering and approval. Retrieving and displaying each of the media item may also be restricted to registered members only and/or to members of a group / college / school / Buddhist organisation only to serve the copyright and teaching materials of those organisations. The site will be appearing on many different websites across the world (countries, colleges, schools, universities, organisation, etc) and displaying each localised language and assets. Each site across the globe will have administration access to maintain site users, local / global content submissions, local languages, and local assets (materials) while the database will be centralised and only local assets will be mirrored to each individual local server to distribute loads and to display local language accordingly. The website shall be built keeping Search Engine Optimisation in mind and is to be built so it's scalable and easy to update, allowing the administrator to update database contents, users, page contents, other administration tasks over time and new system requirements. The site structures will adhere to common practice rules on good website architecture such as easily accessible navigational elements, main content only a few clicks away, fast loading pages and search engine optimisation. Relational Database Management System principles shall be implemented to define the database structures of the website. Project Tools and Requirements The following are the tools that shall be used to implement the solutions: - PHP - MySQL - CSS - JavaScript - XML (if applicable) - Ajax (if applicable) - RDBMS (Relational database struc) Specific secure areas will be defined using SSL connection. These secure areas include administration, user registration, content submissions and others. Further asset and database definitions will be provided during the requirement gathering. It is expected that majority of the media assets do not have ISBN as such due to the fact most of the contents are generated by Venerable Monks around the world. Please keep in mind for project expansion and new features additions when designing and implementing the project. Interface User Interface design might be provided and the project should be implemented in such a way it's easy to change the interface, the layout and etc at anytime.
