I have worked previously on a project with pppd for modem configuration and used google protobuf for communication with the server, but using JSON should be easy.

Hi, I am an Electrical Engineer and an Embedded Systems Expert with 3+ years of Industrial Experience. I have experience with almost every Embedded Systems Platform used in the Industry. I have experience with ARM (STM32, LPC1768), AVR (ATmega2560 etc), PIC(PIC18F, PIC16F), Infineon(AURIX family) , Renesas (RL78, V850), TI (MSP430), Freescale (MPC family) and many more. I have done many projects on these platforms. Some of them are: 1) Implemented Phase Vocoder on STM32. 2) Implemented speed-meter that would find out the speed with which you walk. This we did using STM32 and accelerometer 3) USB HID mouse on PIC18 4) 32-point realtime FFT implementation on PIC18 5) MP3 Player implementation on STM32 6) Implementation of CAN and LIN drivers on the Infineon, Freescale and Renesas Boards and many more... Infact I have done a project very similar to this in which a Kinetis Freedom Board was used with u-blox modem for connectivity. The protocol ppp was implemented on the Freedom Board and through this the connection to server would be made using the REST API. I could really help you with this project. But I would require the hardware to be accessible to me. But I think that with my skills and expertise I am the best guy to do this job for you as I have the experience.
