Intent: To analyse how the performance of the Australian healthcare system is measured nationally and internationally. Objective: This assessment task addresses the subject learning objectives B and C: B. Explain trends and structure and functional challenges in service provision models, health system performance and health service outcomes and outputs within the Australian healthcare system; C. Create a variety of ways in which complex issues can be effectively communicated for a variety of target audiences. In your response you need to consider: -How the performance of the Australian healthcare system is currently measured nationally (Australia’s Health Performance Framework); -How the performance of Australian healthcare systems is measured internationally (e.g. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) measures) ; -Compare and contrast the ways in which the performance is measured nationally and internationally; -Based on your review of the literature, what additional indicators could be included to measure the performance of the Australian healthcare system. Method: -Access recent peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed literature. -Collect evidence that enables you to compare how health system performance is measured in Australia and how it is measured in other nations. -Find out the indicators used to measure the performance of the Australian healthcare system. -Find out the indicators used by the OECD to measure the performance of the Australian healthcare system. -Compare and contrast the ways in which the performance is measured nationally (and internationally). -Based on your review of the literature, what additional indicators could be included to measure the performance of the Australian healthcare system.
