Help with Windows 10 Pro Remote Desktop Connection on a home network

I have a Windows 10 Pro machine on my home network. I am unable to connect to it if I enter the IP address into the RDC client, but when I enter the computer name it is unable to find the computer.
I've checked and it looks like both computers are part of the same workgroup. I've tried ipconfig /dnsflush on both computers. Finally I've tried renaming the computer.
I'm at my wits end, and I would like some help from someone who is experienced troubleshooting Windows remote desktop connections. Thank you.
