Hi! The strongest candidate for a reason for this happening is - you've been crawled 'like hell'. Spider/crawler/bot incidents and rates/per hour has risen through the roof nowdays, many of these are illegitimate(not having permission to be crawling the site) with many even trying to impersonate legit ones(like search engines) to avoid being blocked. There's no other sustainable solution but to implement blocking, based on multiple criteria like IP ranges as well as user agent strings of the incoming requests(that's what I've been doing lately) after pulling up the stats from the access logs and identifying each and every one of them and decide if it's allowed to continue or not. I've noticed that lately even search engine spiders started to act in a irresponsible manner and not pacing themselvs, putting unnecessary stress on the receiving end of it, but unfortunately the rate is very hard to control or influence. Blacklisting those that are decided to be non-legit usually solves the problem. It must be noted though that wp-cron usually plays a substantial part as well(depending on how many tasks are scheduled, on what schedule(some run on a every minute schedule even) and what tasks they are performing. So it has to be examined toroughly before blaming something to be teh culprit behind this and advise on possible options to resolve the situation on the long run. By 'load' you mean: cpu, memory or both? Whats's the traffic at the time of the stress? Regards, Dobri

Hi The cache is used for already loaded products only. If you are changing them then only cache should be cleared for new products load it is not required. As you have 8 year old website then please check if any PHP code is requesting the server several times. This could be 1 of the reason. I think you might have upgrade your website core functionality because there are lots of changes/upgrades in PHP in last 8 years. Please let me know if you need help. Regards Rahul
