The business model for this company was short-term rental of medical devices prescribed by a doctor for patient use. Thus the useful life needed to be several years (of repeated rentals).

I ported an existing HMI product from Windows CE to Linux

The problem observed in first units sold and installed was that the units died after just several months of operation. The HMI interface was for an industrial control system, had 24/7 up time.
