You will need to study the Australian Standard Timber Frame (AS1684) to work out the box room's framing structure. It would help if you further enhance your understanding by researching real-life situations (e.g. own living place). Basic configuration Floor Area: 15m2 – 18m2 (including all finishes) The shed’s interior and exterior walls, floor and ceiling are supported by light timber framing with a skillion roof. Clear lower ceiling height: 2700 mm FFL (Finished floor level): 600 mm from the ground and supported on stumps Insulation for wall and roof and floor Steps and landing The shed should have adequate cross ventilation Interior finish (You are required to present these interior finishes in your drawings only) Floor: timber Wall: plasterboard (thickness 10 mm) Ceiling: plasterboard (thickness 10 mm) Exterior finish: timber cladding Roof The roof of this timber shed is a skillion roof with a slope of 15o The roof is extended 500mm on both sides in the direction of the roof slope The roof is covered by metal sheet Consider the following for drawing and model-making: Stump: 100 x 100 mm Noggins: (35x90) mm) @ 1200 mm from bottom plate Roof and wall batten: (35x50 mm) @ 600 mm C/C Submission Requirements Important note: You are required to add an entry door to the timber shed and other necessary windows to ensure adequate natural lighting and cross ventilation (min. two windows on opposite walls). Use bracings where necessary. See the drawing checklist and comply before you finalise your drawing. Draw the following drawings: A set of floor plan, elevation and section. It includes the following: Subfloor Plan (scale 1:20) Floor Plan (scale 1:20) Roof Plan (scale 1:20) (must show roof slope, gutter position, building perimeter in dotted line) 4 External Elevation, including all finishes and door/window frame (east, west, north and south elevation) (scale 1:20). 2 Cross Section. One in the north-south direction and another in the east-west direction. The sections must pass through an opening (e.g. Door/window) and identify each construction and finish material (scale 1:20). Structural model of the timber shed (scale 1:20) You should make a structural model of the timber shed. The model must show the following: All floor and subfloor members including stumps All wall members (including bracing) All roof and ceiling member Stair and landing Label each member type in the model The primary construction material of the timber shed project is balsa wood. Cut the required member size from the balsa wood sheet and attach them with glue. The model must have your name and student ID on the stair side. Model making process You should document the model making process by taking photographs and formatting them in only one A3 size paper. Label each photograph with an appropriate caption. Member selection Show from the supplied table how did you select the followings: Floor bearer Floor joist Lintel Rafter Common (Wall) stud Top Plate Bottom plate Put all information in one A3 paper. Following is an example of steps of how to determine the size of a Floor Bearer from the supplied Span Table: Step 1: Select the timber stress grade (e.g. MGP 10) Step 2: Select the span type (e.g. Continuous span) Step 3: Select Joist spacing (e.g. 450 mm c/c) Step 4: Select Joist span (e.g. 1500 mm) Step 5. Select member size (e.g. 90 x 45 mm) You can create 7 tables(i.e. 1 for each member) within the A3 paper. Submission Format Please remember that physical submission will only be considered for assessment purposes. Physical Submission (for assessment purposes) All construction drawings should be hand-drawn in pencil (use 2H and /or HB) on A3 tracing paper and submitted in A3 white paper folder. Member selection table should be appropriately marked and annotated All drawing pages must have a title block, which should include unit name, task name, task number, tutorial time, student name, student ID, drawing title, scale, date and sheet number. No page borders. The model could be built with balsa wood and must be submitted with the drawings. Canvas submission (only for archival purposes) Construction Drawings: All drawings should be scanned and converted into a single Pdf file and uploaded on Canvas. Model Making Process: Photographs containing model making process should be scanned and converted into a single Pdf file and added at the end of construction drawings.
