Hi there! Let's begin with my most recent experience designing an ebook for Kindle. It was a large cookbook with more than 200 images. The document I was working from was copied from the writer's blog and had so many typos and formatting errors that I had to proofread the manuscript several times as well as edit it for a better flow before designing the layout. But the end result looked so good that it was a very rewarding experience! You will see the client's feedback on my freelancer profile. Most amateurs try to convert the MS Word document directly into an ebook. This can be done but the result is full of so much unwanted code from MS Word that the formatting develops strange errors and looks different on different devices. Pro tip: Make sure you get someone who is going to code the entire book in HTML and give it formatting styles using CSS before converting it into a .mobi file for Kindle. This keeps a tight control over the layout and makes it flow dynamically on all Kindle devices regardless of the font and magnification chosen by the reader. Also make sure your layout designer is great with Photoshop because formatting images for ebooks can be a little tricky. Otherwise they look different on different devices! All the best!
