We have an ecommerce system at [login to view URL], and we want an automated way to add a "variant" to our products... in the admin control panel you can add variants, which are like, ... if you have a VHS tape, you can add also a DVD type variant without creating a new product for the DVD.. it's just an extra option for the customer to choose. An example is on this page: <[login to view URL]> .. as you can see, at the bottom there is a variant to either buy a downloaded CD, or purchase a physical copy of our CD. In the admin we have to go through every tutorial that we sell and add a new variant if we want to add additions, like tutorial packs, compilations, etc..., which would take us many hours.. so we wanted a simple SQL script to be able to take in a product "category", like "C++", then go through all the C++ tutorials and add a variant that has the Title, specifies whether its a downloadable product or not, the download file if so, and the price. All the other data for the variant would be default.
We would just have you connect to our database and see which fields need to be there to create a new variant... but that is what we want.
It should be pretty simple. We use SQL 2000 on [login to view URL] as our webhost. Let me know what you think! You might have a better idea on how to do it. Thanks!
