My son requires a schematic to follow for building a working example of switching a positive output to a 100w 12v bulb using a MOSFET or transistor with a 12v trigger. ( NOT from a board like Arduino. )

hello, I got the point what you require. You need a circuit diagram in which you wish to connect a bulb by a switch and that switch has to be a mosfet or any other transistor switch. Well, transistor switches perform operations in cutoff, active and saturation region and you wish to utilize that principle to control your bulb. Fine, I can design that circuit for you and can even simulate it for you in Multisim software to show you the working of the circuit diagram.
